Dodger is ready for a fresh start. Not because he isn’t a good dog – but because he hasn’t quite had the right place to be fully understood.
At 6 years old, this handsome German Shepherd is stepping into a new chapter… one where he gets the structure, guidance, and connection he’s been missing. And there is so much here to love.
Dodger's story
Dodger came into rescue after being surrendered due to neighbor complaints about barking. But dogs don’t bark without a reason.
More often than not, it comes from unmet needs… energy without an outlet… or a dog simply trying to communicate in the only way he knows how. What Dodger needs isn’t less of a voice – he needs the right environment to feel settled, engaged, and understood.
Personality
Dodger is the perfect mix of adventure and chill. He loves being outside – exploring on walks, playing in the snow, or stretching out in the sun. He’s curious about the world and enjoys taking it all in.
He’s also incredibly people-oriented. Friendly, eager, and always ready to connect. The kind of dog who looks to his person and says, “What are we doing next?”
His journey
Dodger came to us carrying a little extra weight, and we’re already helping him get back to feeling his best. He’s currently on a healthy diet and exercise routine, and we’re committed to helping him slim down safely and comfortably.
Because he deserves to feel good. To move with ease. To thrive.
Training & skills
Dodger is a smart boy with a great foundation.
He knows:
-
Sit
-
Lay down
-
Wait
-
Roll over
-
Paw
He is also:
-
Crate trained
-
Rides well in the car, both in a crate and in the backseat
He will need continued work with:
-
Leash manners — he is a strong puller
-
Potty training
With consistency and guidance, he has all the tools to keep progressing.
Behavior notes
We believe in full transparency so every dog is set up for success. Dodger has had one nip incident involving a fence boundary situation. There have been no issues since, but it is something his future family should be aware of and prepared to manage with proper boundaries and guidance.
Ideal home
Dodger is looking for:
-
An active home that will keep him engaged
-
Someone experienced or confident with large, strong dogs
-
Continued structure, leadership, and training
-
A family committed to helping him become his best self
He isn’t a “set it and forget it” dog – he’s a "build a bond, grow together" kind of dog.
Why he matters
Dodger didn’t lose his home because he wasn’t worthy. He lost it because his needs weren’t fully understood. And that’s what we’re determined to change.
